“I’m Grateful for Winder & Counsel!” – John Shillich

John was severely burned in 2010 due to a gas explosion caused by the lack of a backdraft guard in the design of a gas can. The defect left him severely injured, and caused him to be placed in a burn unit, unable to work and provide for his family.  His body was covered in 3rd degree burns. The burns required eleven major surgeries and left him on life support for three months.  A longtime member of the ironworkers union, John lost his position as a welder, and received no social security or disability benefits during this time.  John’s wife had to obtain a second job in order to support him, and their two young daughters.  Don Winder met with John in the hospital, and filed a lawsuit against Blitz, the manufacturer of the gas can.  When all was said and done, out team of attorneys were able to secure a $1.7 million settlement, and help change the way the gas cans were manufactured.  John considers it a blessing that Winder & Counsel was able to give him a second chance at life after this horrible incident, and provide great legal work every step of the way.
